Checking-In With the Designers of the Future

In early December we shared with readers our work with a local high school robotics team. If you haven’t had a chance you can check out that article here. As we edge closer to the robotics competition deadline we wanted to check-in with The Streakers and see how they are doing.

Madison High School’s robotics team, The Streakers, are moving forward with their venture. Through the leadership of Dean Wadd, their instructor, and Torque’s own Jeff Kolasinski offering technical advice, the team has been working on their design while earning, growing, and developing new skills. The AWT Foundation’s RoboBots competition is scheduled for April 30th, leaving our team with precious weeks left to finalize their battle bot.

The AWT Foundation

Streakers_Visit_4.jpgThe students from Madison High School are lucky to compete in such a fun and challenging program. The AWT Foundation has brought the program to our community from the National Robotics League and follow their rules and regulations.

Through the process of robot building, students’ imaginations are captured as they design, build and compete with their own robotic creations; and through this hands-on effort, gain practical knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math – all essential skills for manufacturing.

With an emphasis on exposing students to real world manufacturing skills, the AWT RoboBots program also strives to teach students a range of more general skills as well. Some of the additional items students are expected to learn are:IMG_0803_2.jpg
